What helps me feel my best?

Writer: ali hayesali hayes

First, I am in no way an expert, and am still exploring different healing techniques. But I have decided to write down some of my recent practices, that are making me feel my best. I have seen improvement with better skin, energy, and mood.

  1. Plant-Based/whole foods: I have been practicing this for almost two years. Dairy-free for about 3 1/2 and now vegan for about 8 months (besides a night that I had two many glasses of wine and my boyfriend made delicious pesto shrimp and steak...woops). Eating whole, plant-based foods has helped me feel amazing. I think it has also helped me detox my body by flushing out harmful toxins causing acne, brain-fog, low energy, and blue moods.

  2. Celery Juice & Smoothies by the Medical Medium: Celery juice I have been doing for about two years. Some weeks my laziness takes over and I only make it once or twice, but I try to stay up on it because I know how important it is. More recently I have added in the Medical Medium's Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie and his Liver Rescue Smoothie. I switch between these two for breakfast as many times are I can. I can't believe the difference I can see from adding these into my routine. I believe it has tremendously improved my skin. Keeping in mind, this improvement might be in everything I am doing and not just the smoothies alone.

  3. L-Lysine: this is a vitamin I started taking about two months ago. When first starting I was taking between 3-4 a day. I now take two every night- along with Vitamin C and Zinc( which are also very important to take). My mother was who suggested these to me, because she saw major improvement to her skin. She suffered from Rosacea, and I mean her skin was glowing. So yes, I immediately ordered and started popping these guys. My favorite place to get vitamins is www.vimergy.com. Not a plug, I just love their product!

  4. Drinking Dandelion Root Tea and Lemon Balm tea: Dandelion root helps flush out extra estrogen from the body which can cause acne on the chin during ovulation. This was information I learned from Alisa Vitti, who I speak more on below. Lemon Balm tea helped fight the strep virus hiding in our bodies that also causes acne. I like to drink Dandelion root tea in the morning and Lemon Balm tea at night, but there isn't a wrong way to do it. My favorite brand is Traditional Medicinals, which you can find at many different grocery stores.

  5. Using Sahara Rose's Pitta facewash and mask: which you can make in your kitchen. The cleanse is a combination of raw honey, apple cider, coconut oil and tea tree oil. After cleaning with this and water, you apply rose water and rose otto in jojoba oil. The tea tree oil I use is the 100% essential oil, Whole Foods brand. The rose water is Heritage Store. I was also using the Rose Otto in Jojoba oil, Whole Foods brand as well. I recently switched to Trader Joe's 100% pure jojoba oil, because the rose otto was really small and expensive and for me the Trader Joe's jojoba oil works well.

  6. Cut way way back on nuts and nut butter: This I started about two year ago as well, and could not believe the difference. I love almond butter and peanut butter and sun butter, all of them...cashew butter! But eating a lot of these actually clogs your liver, and makes it work harder. At first I cut them completely out of my diet, and the difference in my digestion was unbelievable. Now I have them a few times a week.

  7. Eating routines based on my Cycle: Now, full disclosure, this is the newest thing I am trying. I was listening to the Sahara Rose podcast with speaker Alisa Vitti, author of Woman Code.

"...especially as a feminine being, a womb-man, meaning a woman that has a womb. You are not the same as men biologically. Men operate, as we’ll speak about in this podcast, with the circadian rhythm cycles, which means every 24 hours their bodies repeat themselves - they feel the same at 4pm as they did the day before (granted of course maybe different things happening that day) but biologically they feel the same every single day, it’s a 24hour system. Whereas for us, feminine beings, we have our infradian rhythm cycles which is actually based around a 28-days cycle in relationship with our menstrual cycle as well as the Moon cycle." - Sahara Rose

I mean, hello. This completely makes sense. I haven't even read her book yet, but have already started implementing this into my everyday life. Here it is at the basic level. The first part of your cycle is time towards the end of you period until around the end of your ovulation. The second part is after ovulation and before your period/beginning of your period. For the first part of your cycle, you can eat more raw foods and do the more intense exercises. I have been doing my smoothies during this time, and a lots of big salads. I have the energy to work our more times in a week- if I wanted to do a boxing class or go for a run this is when I would do it. During the second part of your cycle you want to eat more cooked foods, and do low-impact workouts. I have been doing stewed apples with cinnamon and oatmeal in the mornings, warm ginger tea, and stay away from salads and smoothies. This is also when you need to listen to your body and most likely rest more. This has been a game changer for me so far, and I can't wait to read the book. Also, please go listen to the podcast!

These are all things I have learned to help me heal. That isn't to say I am still suffering from some bad skin days, or mask-ne (ance caused my wearing a mask). And some low energy days and mood swings. But this medicine has helped me tremendously. Hope it is helpful!
